What Makes the Mooer Hornet 15 a Sweet Beginner Guitar Amp?
Weighing in at just over six pounds, the Mooer Hornet 15 is a compact combo amp that’s perfect for practice in your home, office, dorm room, and so on. Its lightweight Class D amplifier delivers 15 watts of power to a 6.5-inch speaker, and the closed-back cabinet design gives the Hornet 15 beefier bass response than you may expect from its small size. Nine different presets can be selected instantly from the cool chicken-head knob on the front panel, while controls on the top of the amp allow you to fine-tune settings, create your own presets, add effects, tune up, and more.
In other words, the Mooer Hornet 15 ticks all the boxes you’d look for in a beginner guitar amp. It’s small and easy to transport. The Hornet 15 gives you fast access to a bunch of different guitar tones that support a wide range of musical styles. Diverse Amp Models Make the Mooer Hornet 15 an Awesome Practice Amp
As you can hear at the beginning of Tom and Steve’s test session, the Mooer Hornet 15 puts nine diverse presets at your fingertips, ranging from chiming clean tones to grindy overdrive and sustaining distortion. These presets are based on the Hornet 15’s built-in amp models, including realistic emulations of Fender, VOX, Orange, Soldano, Marshall, and other legendary amplifier brands. By entering LIVE mode, you can use the top-panel controls to dial in your preferred amp model and channel settings, and then save it as a preset to one of the positions on the rotary knob — very cool.
It’s an ideal practice amp because you can get such a wide array of tones — I have this in my bedroom and I literally use it all the time. — Steve Sterlacci
You’ll notice that the Mooer Hornet 15 is available in a range of different colors, and we were surprised to learn that each color offers a slightly different selection of amp models to choose from. In our No Fear Gear testing, Tom and Steve demonstrate the White model which features emulations of amps from Fender, Marshall, Orange, Divided by 13, and Peavey, as well as a few Mooer-original models. Other Hornet 15 colors feature models based on Engl, Soldano, Roland, and more, so if you’re looking for a specific type of amp model, it’s worth checking out the product manual online before you buy.

Mooer Hornet 15 Inspires Your Practice with Built-In Modulation, Delay, and Reverb Effects
One of the easiest ways to add some inspiration to your electric guitar practice sessions is to enhance your tone with rhythmic delay, expansive reverb, or vibrant modulation. The Mooer Hornet 15 is equipped with all of these onboard, allowing you to craft some amazingly polished tones without messing with your pedalboard. After all, the whole point of a practice amp is that it’s generally located somewhere away from your “main” guitar rig, and rigging up your pedalboard generally defeats the purpose. With the Mooer Hornet 15, inspiring effects are at your fingertips — no pedalboard required.
I think ‘inspiring’ is the right word because it’s not just amplifying your guitar, it’s getting your creative thing going. — Tom Butwin
Delay fans will find plenty to love about the Hornet 15’s delay effects control, which gives you access to analog, tape, and digital styles of delay effects. Reverb ranges from small rooms to expansive halls, and the modulation section gives you access to classic phaser, chorus, and vibrato effects. Our No Fear Guides were especially impressed to see not only Tap Tempo control for the delay section, but an independent Tap Tempo control for the modulation effect. You could potentially dial in some intricate sonic layers via different effects tempos, for example syncing the delay tempo to your playing while using a phaser with a much slower tempo for a slow, sweeping filter effect.
…you don’t have to get bogged down with a pedalboard — just focus on playing! — Tom Butwin
• Delay with Tap Tempo and Analog, Tape Echo, and Digital delay emulations
• Modulation with Tap Tempo and Chorus, Phaser, and Vibrato modes
