DOD Drag: You’ve Never Heard Analog Delay Like This
What is the DOD Drag?
DOD just released the DOD Drag Analog Delay Effects Pedal, and it combines classic warm analog delay with never-before-heard time warping effects you can’t achieve with any other delay pedal. We had our No Fear Guides put the DOD Drag through the paces, discovering unique realtime analog delay effects along the way: here’s what we learned.
Traditional Bucket Brigade Delay
While Drag is capable of highly exotic delay effects, the first thing we wanted to know was how is it as a traditional analog delay? It turns out Drag is an exceptional delay pedal for bread-and-butter effects like subtle trails with modulation, and solo-enhancing echoes that decay quickly. Four knobs govern everything you need to craft classic delay effects, and the filter knob means you can control how bright or dark the repeats are.
Warp Time in Unique Ways with Friction
Friction effects are what make DOD Drag unique, allowing you to create vibrant delays and then grab them, bend them, or stop them dead. To create Drag’s Friction effects with any other delay pedal, you’d need to be turning multiple knobs in real time and with pinpoint precision: Drag does all of this simply by pressing down on the footswitch.
Comprehensive Control with FS3X Footswitch
The key to getting the most out of Drag’s realtime performance capabilities is by adding the optional FS3X 3-button footswitch. The FS3X gives you dedicated footswitches for Friction moves, modulation on/off, and tap tempo. 60 Cycle Hum shows off some of the more exotic effects you can pull off on the fly with the FS3X connected to the DOD Drag.
Take Classic Analog Delay Effects to New Levels
The BBD circuit at the core of Drag means it covers all the ground you’d expect from a good delay pedal, from spanky slapback to lead-worthy echoes. Adding Friction effects simply allows you to take these familiar analog tones to uncharted territory and back again with the press of a switch.
DOD Drag Can Be Your Go-To Delay Pedal
If you’re wondering whether Drag has the range to be the only delay pedal on your pedalboard, our No Fear Guides would definitely answer in the affirmative. We’d also agree that adding the FS3X footswitch is crucial to getting the most out of Drag. With the Drag pedal and the FS3X on your pedalboard, you can easily dial in all of your standard analog delay effects, and also have immediate access to unique time-warping effects when appropriate.
